Limon Restaurant

San Francisco Review

Limon, located on Valencia Street in San Francisco's Mission District is a popular place for diners "in-the-know". Limon offers quality Peruvian delicacies. The service is outstanding....the waiter we had was very attentive to our needs without being obtrusive. Our water glass never went empty nor did our fruity Sangria glass. Sangria is a must at Limon.

On our visit we started out with Hongos and calamares Limon. Hongos is the sauteed mushrooms with light butter, garlic and parsley. It is chopped and molded in a round shape. Great for sharing. The calamares Limon was excellent as well. The whole calamari was braised and stuffed with aji amarillo, shrimp and bread crumbs. The calamari was very tender and had a succulent flavor. It was served with a creamy saffron sauce and a tomato-crispy leek salad.

For the main course, we shared Pargo Rojo and the Arroz con Mariscos family style. The Pargo Rojo is a whole red snapper deep fried served with rocoto curry sauce and a side of coconut rice. The presentation was amazing and the flavor succulent. The Arroz con Mariscos came with clams, mussels, scallops, shrimp, and calamari cooked with saffron rice in a pepper shrimp sauce. All the flavors of the shellfish came together so well. We highly recommend Limon.

The ambience was dark for a romantic feel though it was very loud and noisy. Parking in the area is very difficult. You might find some parking in an alley, but it is not the safest. Taking a taxi is highly recommended.
